Life in Chicagoland

We are in the second year of our internship experience at Willow Creek. During this season of our lives we are attempting to balance Seminary work, caring for a sweet little baby girl and still adjusting to life away from our friends and family. We couldn't be more excited about all that God has in store for us!

This blog will be our attempt to share the struggles and joys of this experience...as well as some pictures and an occasional video. We welcome your feedback and comments and will do our best to keep up with the blog on a regular basis!

Enjoy!

The View from 35000 feet

It is really easy in life to get bogged down in the details that are in front of us. The stress of our jobs, the attempts to balance our schedules, keeping up with bills, a list of things that seems to birth busyness and more "to do's". And then there is a fight on an airplane. For some of us this is a literal flight, others it is a moment in time where our perspective changes and we see the world in a whole new light. Keri and I were going to Chicago for an interview for her, and I was looking out the window thinking about all of the details of the next few days and praying that God would yet again prove faithful in this process.

In that moment there was a break in the clouds where I could see down to the ground and was impressed at how seemingly insignificant we are individually in this world. From ground level there could have been accidents, stressed people rushing around, lost wallets, crying children, parties or peace, but somehow from 35000 feet it didn't seem to be of consequence. I have been thinking about this since then and it was upon our return trip that I was reminded that God cares about the seemingly inconsequential. He is seated at much higher elevation than 35000 feet and yet still is attentive to the details of jobs, family, our material possesions and more. It is refreshing to get a new perspective from above that allows us to operate our lives in a new way yet the reminder that God looks down through the clouds and focuses on us creates a sense of awe that should be new every day.
